Miss You, Love You ....

How does it feel,
When you know the one who is saying this to you does not really mean it?

How does it feel,
When you say the same but cannot feel anything?

How does it feel,
When you know the one who is saying this to you means every word of it?
When the one you are saying it to also feels the same?
Wants to say the same, and believes in the same?

Time will say!!

Auto-biography

I am reading Obama's 'My Fathers Dream' between work and talking.. Among the type of books I read, I think, autobiographies are my favorite. I haven't read many but the ones I did have inspired me is some way or other.

I rarely regret anything but when am sad or upset knowing the struggle and accident other people went through just helps me to regain strength and faith. This is true not only with books by big successful people but also friends and family. There is so much of strength and knowledge just around us. Even though we know so little about each other, but if one has the heart to feel what the other person has gone through then their experiences just adds on to your strength. It happens to me atleast. Read a friends blog, on how the person was engaged for five years and then things did not work and life had to be restarted.

Am happy that things with this particular friend has fallen in place and she resides in peace, but I do not understand why is there so much pain around?

It's so important to not get drowned in such moments because no matter what life moves on and we eventually reach the shore unless we have given up swimming!

Thankfully I have made it till now and I just hope to be ashore too.

God Bless.

**was just remembering a half owl and wondering how far is the shore?**

Life ke Up and Down...

My life is going through a serious dama dol!

I hope this uncertainty will settle soon ..

I finally got the GSS notification of 'NO' you did not get the award in paper today. I already had a hunch so was not so disappointed. I think I already went through the depression of the forth coming crisis few weeks back :). So I was all prepared to receive the news. I just cannot afford to waste too much time in hopelessness :)

So anyway, there are few more options at the university to help me get through this stage. Will apply for all of them. I am sure something will workout. Specially with John beside me and giving a thought to me, just makes me think and feel that things will work out.

On the other hand, something that I was sure off, but still not certain came to the foreground. And am happy. I mean I am happy, I want to believe and I am believing everything without a pinch of doubt in it :)

I mean there is a lot of vagueness in it but yet there is a surety about certain things. For the first time, I am between "Certainty and Vagueness" unlike "Unsure and No Idea" or completely submerged in "No Idea"!

So technically not everything is "Down" and neither is everything up in the "Air" but their is an overarching cloud/breeze of 'Calmness'.

I mean if I zoom-in for tiny details then the picture quality gets fragmented or pixelated and nothing makes sense! But if I zoom out, I see a Enid Blitonish "Happy Ending" even with my bad eyes or without glasses :)

But for now its better or important to hold on to reality or view it at the actual resolution and not zoom in or zoom out! Kitna maaza ayeaga when zooming in or out won't make a difference to the picture quality, :)

Ahha that will be Bliss, I think :). Even the thought of it makes Tanu blotter happy. Am perpetually intoxicated with a cool breeze for, and am just enjoying it, :)!

Ahmen
God Bless :)

NB - On a practicle note though the calmness is making me loose the practicalism I don't know if that would be a sensible thing to do.. but may be it will be better this way..than repenting later...I hate being practicle..but since I just cannot afford to loose myself w/o ensuring that I will land on my foot I have to remain this way :( so, on a real note let me not believe in it, unless am asked to or have real reasons to believe that something concrete has happened..its better that I forget that anything ever came to the foreground! ! wonder why can't I have a simple straight forward life?

Yeh Duniya Hai Rang Birangi : Blogging Ki Bhi

I was going through my first photo blog...

'Some Pleasant Views'

It felt a nice walk through some wonderful days and time. Summer of 2006 was my best. Me, Tripti, Nikki, Gujju Gang, Ana, Silvia, Farmer's Market, Bike Rides....all came back alive.

Like going through an old album, Can't describe the reason and the peace in my smile right now. Feel's blissful :)

Am glad that I had archived those days here. It easier to run through old memories through a snap then reading about old days, like here !

Got reminded of Old friends, new friends, fellow blogger's ... the journey of realizing my passion with so many things...I did get reminded of an unwanted self inflicted trouble too which made me just close down everything... but then even that was fun... today when I went through all these shots above, I was smiling more than feeling sad or sorry.

Bachelor shyama and Madan; Harshil and Nikki.. ... .... so many many more...I am glad that I started blogging... and made such beautiful memories to cherish.
I met so many people in these 5 years. Some in real life, some in the blog world, some just in my thoughts, some stayed, some left..making all these memories to look back and smile. It just feels nice. Except for a few, every person here has made me smile, inspired and motivated me, helped me to realize so many things..and just grow in life..shai kaha hai kisi ne.. 'YEH DUNIYA HAI RANG BIRANGI' ...and that's true with blogging ki duniya too :)

.................

How unexpected and surprising can it be to actually run or meet someone with whom u have shared a silent untold space in mind? Has this ever happened to anyone I don;t know !

My life, my experiences, my idea of him, he himself unknowingly made some significant presence in my here. I am not sure if this personality is for real or he more of a metaphysical existence in thoughts. He was neither present nor absent. He has spoken but remained silent as well. I really cannot define, evaluate or describe in words.

But the journey from how and where we met to what I have discovered or felt is very unique and different. I don't know if this strongly felt unseen bond is for real or imaginary! If he exists for real! OR is it just what I want?

There is a mysterious, omnipresent, silent, uncertain, known, metaphysical component present in this journey from comprehending, realizing, discovering and eventually meeting him someday.

He has existed in my thoughts, words and visions for years. I will let TIME help me find Him. Since its only 'TIME' that stood with me from the time I conceived him to the actual delivery.

Apprehensions :
Deep inside I feel and I have found 'HiM' there are lot of question in my mind which I have no answers for! There is a lot of truth in it besides the evident vagueness as well. This is definitely not what I was expecting to happen at this point in my life at all !

By Gone Days!

Last week was surprisingly unpleasant and sad. Too many things not falling in place making me sad and disappointed. An attack on my faith, believe and dream followed by the ever feared days to come with mom leaving in few weeks, it was a mess!

It was a nightmare!

But its all over now.

I am back to my self controlled self.

Focusing on 'What I can, I must' for today, for tomorrow.

Prayers and only prayers, to the unknown, as always helped me to gain the strength and my faith that things will be fine. It has to be, atleast that's what the gains in my life have taught till now.

I need to just hold on to it and like always, it will help me walk through the days after mom leaves as well. Above all I am not scared anymore. Days can never be darker than what I have already survived. Thanks for reminding me again,

Thanks. love you. peace

Utpal Dutt - a legend in bollywood

Utpal Dutt, Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chaterjee, Amol Parekar, Deepti Naval, Faurkh Shekh... WHAT'S COMMON TO ALL OF THEM ?

Any guess?

Yes, its old time comedy.

Everytime I feel sad and all my self installed mood lifters have failed, I take refuge to them or harry potter. Today it was the former. Harry Potter is not really a comedy, but there is something happy, hopeful and nice about the whole series. But today, I knew I needed something stronger. Hence 'Old Bollywood Classic' was my only choice.

I searched through quite a few of Utpal Dutt's movies. Most I have already seen and wanted to watch something new. Ran into 'Baat Baan Jaye'. I had not seen it but with Utpal Dutt in the cast, I did not mind taking a risk. It was a ok, movie with only Utpal Dutt bearing the laughter torch. But not good enough to regain focus.

My next request to google was "Utpal Dutt + Hrishikesh MUkherjee", "Utpal Dutta + Basu Chaterjee". Utpal Dutt with either of them is a DEADLY COMBINATION. BINGO!

I ran into what I needed. We just finished watching, 'Kisi Se Na Kahna'.

It worked like the charm I needed, a good luck charm. It's so hard to be productive when one is sad, atleast for me it is. I have to acknowledge this team "Basu Chatterjee and Hrishikesh Mukherjee" in my thesis, for giving us so such brilliant comedies. It helps me to regain focus and cheer myself up during this last PhD phase, without passing on my depression or irritation to others or disturbing anyone.

I can't thank them enough for showcasing such humor.

The Beam Balance ....

"From being very emotional I became ultra-practicle, and now with trial and error I have found a middle path"

Though this conversation ended yesterday, it made me think and ponder, Have I really reached or found the middle path? Or I think I have, and what I am presuming as a middle path, when viewed from a distance still falls on either corner?

I am not so sure. But the truth about me is, I do not like to go with brain. Except for work, there is absolutely nothing in life, that I feel needs the advice from brain. I like to go by my heart and subconsiously, even today, I go by it. The only difference is, I always let my brain take a call and oversee, what the heart is upto.

So, going by the statement, I made yesterday, I think am still on the E-side rather than the P-side :). I mean who does not want to be on the stable foot all the time? But in reality that's never the case. Except for you and your work, everything around you is envoloped within a shade of grey. And we happen to just move through that grey zone towards our destiny. So being grey definately helps more than being black and white. But what mix of grey is the perfect combination is hard to judge and find. To me it's more like a dynamic ever evolving mix of both. And there is no perfect answer or measure of it. It's very situational and temporal.

So, when everything around you is so situational and temporal then why to take a stand and define the color of your choice. Just let it be. It primarily boils down to being the way you are. Do not force yourself to be either on E or P path, or even seek a balanced approach.

I mean technically, whats a balance?

A beam balance is a balancing unit used to weigh. And when the weights and the object nullify each other it reaches the balance and becomes static. Stable.

Means no movement anymore. the END. Finish. Done.

Now this contradicts with the basic essesnce of life or being alive. If there are no imbalances there's no scope for exchange of energy. It's dead or in other terms boring. On the other hand, a slight imbalance of weight will bring back the stable dead beam balance to move again, breath and be alive. So I think, the idea of trying to reach and find balance does not go hand in hand with the basic principle of life. It cannot. And some imbalance is necessary to keep the truck going. The only difference lies, in the lenght of the swings. A big swing (imagine a pendulum) would mean more work and time to reach A (the destination) than the small swing. Smaller swings would mean you taking smaller steps towards A, and at the same time bouncing a small step back, rather than a straight push back to the beginning. And I think this is a more rationale and enjoyable ride to the future.

So, in nutshell, just go with what you feel. Do not try to rationalise each and everything. It just takes out the fun out of it. It's important to have dreams, illusions, uncertainities, hopes, wishes, desire to keep dreaming and enjoying the ride till the end. And that cannot be achieved if you are a beam balance, :)

Do what makes you happy, Don't do what makes you unhappy.
Do Happy, Don't Unhappy

Having said that, what exactly is happiness? It's a feel good emotion felt by the brain, only, and not the heart. :)So, realize that. Heart is just an organ, which works solely under the direction of the brain. The separation of brain and heart, is in your mind. In reality, your heart also resides in your brain. You are unable to see it. Which means the over emphasis on heart is totally missunderstood.

And its more and only a journey for happiness, chaired by the skull :)
So being on the P or E path, is irrelevat as long as you are basking in happiness. In absence of H, P or E is irrelevant.

On that note, I must say, that my happiness from the crush has sub-dued a lot. It's more like fun to talk to, which isn't that bad either. But just a note for myself. The crush has reached a balance I guess :)
So, its static and stable. :)

Celebrating the Women in my life

I am supposed to pick 12 women (who have touched my life) and whom I think would want to participate. I think that if this group of women were ever to be in a room together, there is nothing that would be impossible. My hugs, love, gestures and communications hopefully remind you how special that you are. I don't think I know or have 12 women in my life whom I can justify these words, but am glad that I DO HAVE some... And I sent it to them...

'May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.'

All the women in my life who have helped me to hold on to my faith in someway or other at different point in my life till date -

1.Kashmira Patel (For coming from no where and just being there),
2.Avanti Mallapur (SHE IS THE ONE FOR WHOM I STAND TODAY WHERE I AM, and saved me from dying on 7th Jan 2003!),
3.Mita Biswas (the one who is the soul reason for my existence on this planet)
4.Amrita bhattacharya (the little one who re-instated my faith in love)
5. Sia (another little one, who even being younger gave me the shoulder when needed)
6. Dbuorama (for always smiling and giggling, my thesis companion)
7. Tripti Bhaskaran (for who she is and my support system at USU)
8. Mical k (same, support system at USU, for letting me be me)
9. Yan (came as free deal with Mical, but one of the women I admire)
10. Bintili (the only lady in my life that goes beyond Avanti)
11. Margi Dubal (for all the support she gave while she was here)
12. NANI, I could not send her the email, BUT she is always there in my thoughts.

WOW, I actually have 12 !!! NEVER KNEW THIS.

Thanks Kashmira, for letting me acknowledge and celebrate their existence in my life. They all have played a significant role in my life and are my members of Hall of Fame :).

Why Skilled Immigrants Are Leaving the U.S.

New research shows that highly skilled workers are returning home for brighter career prospects and a better quality of life
By Vivek Wadhwa

As the debate over H-1B workers and skilled immigrants intensifies, we are losing sight of one important fact: The U.S. is no longer the only land of opportunity. If we don't want the immigrants who have fueled our innovation and economic growth, they now have options elsewhere. Immigrants are returning home in greater numbers. And new research shows they are returning to enjoy a better quality of life, better career prospects, and the comfort of being close to family and friends.

Earlier research by my team suggested that a crisis was brewing because of a burgeoning immigration backlog. At the end of 2006, more than 1 million skilled professionals (engineers, scientists, doctors, researchers) and their families were in line for a yearly allotment of only 120,000 permanent resident visas. The wait time for some people ran longer than a decade. In the meantime, these workers were trapped in "immigration limbo." If they changed jobs or even took a promotion, they risked being pushed to the back of the permanent residency queue. We predicted that skilled foreign workers would increasingly get fed up and return to countries like India and China where the economies were booming.

Why should we care? Because immigrants are critical to the country's long-term economic health. Despite the fact that they constitute only 12% of the U.S. population, immigrants have started 52% of Silicon Valley's technology companies and contributed to more than 25% of our global patents. They make up 24% of the U.S. science and engineering workforce holding bachelor's degrees and 47% of science and engineering workers who have PhDs. Immigrants have co-founded firms such as Google (GOOG), Intel (INTC), eBay (EBAY), and Yahoo! (YHOO).
Who Are They? Young and Well-Educated

We tried to find hard data on how many immigrants had returned to India and China. No government authority seems to track these numbers. But human resources directors in India and China told us that what was a trickle of returnees a decade ago had become a flood. Job applications from the U.S. had increased tenfold over the last few years, they said. To get an understanding of how the returnees had fared and why they left the U.S., my team at Duke, along with AnnaLee Saxenian of the University of California at Berkeley and Richard Freeman of Harvard University, conducted a survey. Through professional networking site LinkedIn, we tracked down 1,203 Indian and Chinese immigrants who had worked or received education in the U.S. and had returned to their home countries. This research was funded by the Kauffman Foundation.

Our new paper, "America's Loss Is the World's Gain," finds that the vast majority of these returnees were relatively young. The average age was 30 for Indian returnees, and 33 for Chinese. They were highly educated, with degrees in management, technology, or science. Fifty-one percent of the Chinese held master's degrees and 41% had PhDs. Sixty-six percent of the Indians held a master's and 12.1% had PhDs. They were at very top of the educational distribution for these highly educated immigrant groups—precisely the kind of people who make the greatest contribution to the U.S. economy and to business and job growth.

Nearly a third of the Chinese returnees and a fifth of the Indians came to the U.S. on student visas. A fifth of the Chinese and nearly half of the Indians entered on temporary work visas (such as the H-1B). The strongest factor that brought them to the U.S. was professional and educational development opportunities.

here's the other following article that I read day before yesterday

US's loss and Worlds Gain !

1 lakh Indians to return from US in 3-5 yrs: Study

IANS/TimePublished on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 13:14, Updated on Mon, Mar 02, 2009 at 13:48 in Business section

Washington: As many as 1,00,000 Indians and an equal number of Chinese will return to their native countries in the next three to five years, a move that will greatly boost their economies and undermine technological innovation in America, a new US study warns.

The study on immigration by a team at Duke, Harvard and Berkeley universities led by Vivek Wadhwa, an Indian-American technology entrepreneur turned academic, says "America's loss is the world's gain".

There are no hard numbers available on how many have returned, but anecdotal evidence shows that this is in the tens of thousands, says Wadhwa, executive-in-residence for the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University and fellow at the Labour and Worklife Programme at Harvard Law School.

"With the economic downturn, my guess is that we'll have over 1,00,000 Indians and as many Chinese return home over the next three-five years," said Wadhwa. " This flood of western educated and skilled talent will greatly boost the economies of India and China and strengthen their competitiveness.

"India is already becoming a global hub for R&D. This will allow it to branch into many new areas and will accelerate the trend," he said.

"The US has always had the luxury of being arrogant about immigration because it has been the strongest magnet for the world's best and brightest," but as the study shows "there are other strong magnets now".

"We are effectively exporting our economic stimulus. Policies like those which the US just enacted which prevents some banks from hiring foreign workers will have the opposite effect from what they intended - they will send jobs abroad and scare away top talent," Wadhwa said.

The study released on Monday Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, based in Kansas City, Montana, indicates placing limits on foreign workers in the US is not the answer to America's rising unemployment rate and may undermine efforts to spur technological innovation.

"A substantial number of highly skilled immigrants have started returning to their home countries in recent years, draining a key source of brain power and innovation," said vice president of Research and Policy at the Kauffman Foundation, Robert E Litan.

"We wanted to know what is encouraging this much-needed economic growth engine to leave our country, thereby sending entrepreneurship and economic stimulus to places like Bangalore and Beijing," he added.

The report builds on an earlier Kauffman Foundation report by Wadhwa documenting a queue of one million H-1B holders and their families anxiously awaiting longer-term work visas and growing frustrated with the immigration process.

Until recently, America has been the prime destination for the world's best and brightest immigrants.

"Immigrants have made tremendous personal sacrifices. They would leave behind relatives and friends and accept second-tier status in American society," said Wadhwa.

"Now countries like India and China are providing equal career opportunities and a better quality of life. So the most highly educated and skilled are often returning home," he added.

The two-year study covered 1,203 Indian and Chinese subjects who had studied or worked in the US for a year or more before returning home.

Did I or Didn't I ?

My fate for this year has already been decided and sealed I guess.
Just that I am yet to know about it.

GSS award was due to be declared 1st March.

I haven't received any notification yet. Hopefully I will by today from the dept head, with a congratulation email or from the GSS with a sorry email. I just don;t know which side am I !

My getting the GSS would have meant,

I have money to renew my DS2019 and not go out of status in July
I don't have to leave US without finishing my PhD in July 2009.
I can focus on my thesis.
Life is not all that bad..
Things will fall in place..

My not getting the GSS will mean,

No salary from May
I have some savings to pull through, so that won't be a problem.
BUT, that I Cannot renew DS2019
Will mean I have to leave US whenever I go out of status.
What would I do? Where would I go?
Would I go ?
Options - Keep applying for jobs. scholarships.
Deal with research stress, since its not fun to keep exploring or trying out things without money!
Life is dark and there's no light yet keep telling myself that -
Life is not all that bad..
A miracle will happen and things will fall in place..

Hard work pays.
But does dumb hard work pay?
Does trying and exploring and trying and trying, qualify as hard work?
Does wanting to do and figure out things on your own without much assistance, qualify as hard work?
Does trying and not succeeding, qualify as hard work?

I don't know. Or May be I know, that I am just dumb or not smart enough to do a PhD from US :( ! But I should I have realized this 5 years back! Now this is too late. Too late to even turn back.

Under the current circumstances I don't enjoy knowledge and research as much as I did earlier. I just don't care what and how much I learn. Just do something and finish. But even doing something takes time. Doing simple analysis takes so much time. Trying to figure out what I am doing takes so much time. What am doing if that's right or wrong takes away more time and at the end I AM LOST!

Major prof never replies or rarely replies. I think he is used to the fact that I figure out stuff eventually. I guess I have to just bug him more and tell him, I don't know. Help Me. If he does, great, if not, I have no choice but to figure out on my own.

Which of the two sets, will I be subjected to lord?

Either way, just be with to sail through it and not collapse in the midst.

I have loved all my phases of PhD till date, except this one. May be am dumb, may be I not that smart. But with some guidance I know I can get over this hill. Help me lord. Just help me to smile and move through this last phase. Come to me in any form and just walk me through this phase. Thanks for being there..

Had Dinner?

What would one first, answer later think of such a question ?

Answers : Yes or No
If, yes go to next Q >> what ... the conversation continues
If, no, got to next Q >> Why ... the conversation continues

Now comes the thought part or Thinking :

1. Nothing, which is mostly the case :). Just a conversation starter or curiosity (may be)

2. If you happen to be in emotionally receptive phase - when somebody asks so it feels nice. Indicates concern, which is nice to know; this is the case sometimes :)

3. If you happen to be rationale - None of your business; Since the Q or A do not have any influence on each other,

If, thought process 1, then conversation continues :)
If, thought process 2, conservation gets some sugar and honey, :)
If, thought process 3, process the Q or data next time before shooting it :)

"With significant communication these days over phone or chat, this happens to be the first or most common question my friends or mom asks. And it definitely is among the top of the list to ask Q for local friends and decide on whether to eat out or not. I guess I just love to eat as long as I don't have to cook or decide what to cook, :)"

This post is inspired by two questions, one that I was asked, other that I asked :)

It felt nice when Kshitiz asked, 'Teri tabiyaat kaisi hai'? :)

Thankfully am all well, health wise, but such Q in generally, work towards bettering my mood, if it has been subjected to some temporal damage :)

Albert Pinto ko gussa kyon ata hai ?

Kyunki Albert and Pinto gay hai :)

Kyunki Albert, Pinto se nafraat karta hai :)

Kyunki Albert, Pinto ka BF hai, :)

Kyunki Albert, Pinto se pyaar karta hai :)

Kyunki Albert, Pinto ka mai baap hai :)

Kyunki Albert Pinto ka dimaag kharab hai :)

Kyunki Albert Pinto bekaar hai

Kyunki Albert Pinto bore ho gaya hai

Kyunki ... ...
.
.
.
.

Kyunki Albert Pinto, Albert Pinto hai :)

Just bored hence talking nonsense... here is what Rick said today. He encouraged me to continue my analysis for the first time :)

"Today it's easier for you to show up and take control of a complex situation than it is to withdraw, think about what's happening, and then take a course of action based upon your thorough analysis. Normally, you are the calculating one who is measuring each thought. Now, however, you may be ready to jump in without first seeing if the pool is filled with water. In your haste to act, don't try to detach yourself from your feelings, for they still have much to teach you"
